What Makes Schools Great

There are plenty of reasons that schools are great for kids. Schools are a great place to learn. In school, you can learn about different traditions, races, religions, backgrounds, etc. When I was still in school I went to a public school and If I has stayed at home for homeschooling I would have never gotten the chance to meet people of different backgrounds than me and learn from them. With so many classrooms having an inclusive library students are getting the chance to read about many topics about people who aren't like them from authors who are not like them. This is an experience you cannot get outside of school. Another reason schools are great is that they can also help you build socialization. When I was in school it was one of the few places I can talk to my peers and not adults like my parents. This helped build my language more than anything. School is also a great place to learn about routine, behavior, and rules. This is all beneficial for kids to learn about. The last thing that schools are great is that schools let children get educated by some of the best professionals. This gives them access to learn and build their future by professionals who can help with any problems along the way. I know there are reasons schools are not great but I believe that they do serve a great purpose for children to attend. I think many people have forgotten the reasons schools are great and need a reminder.

  1. Hi Sadie! I completely agree with you. School is a great place to learn. Although it is a great place for students to learn i think that some of the times they arent learning accurately. For example, going back to the modules not always do students get the full picture or both sides of the story. I personally think that school is the place where childrens learn the most academically but also develop many skills that will help them later on in the future. I also loved how you brought in your personal experience about going to a public school. I as well went to a public school but never really thought about how different things woudlve been if had been homeschooled. Like you said, going to a public school we are exposed to many things such as different cultres, race, languages etc. How did public school help you develop your language?

    1. Hi Mariela! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog and comment. I agree that there are so many skills that students will learn by going to school. I see what you are saying about not learning accurately. I think it has potential for teachers to come into school and want to make sure students are getting the full picture. I think my hope is to be a teacher who makes sure that students are able to see the full picture. I am so glad you liked that I brought in homeschool vs public school. I think people do not realize how much it dies change an academic experience. I think there are very many pros to public school socially and it benefits children. I hope you enjoyed my blog post.

  2. Hi Sadie, I definitely think that schools are a great place for socialization and experiencing other cultures and ways that people live. Before kids go to school all they had to talk to and socialize with were their parents and maybe their siblings if they had any. As you said schools are where you get to talk to people who are not just your family, and that is so important. Routine is also something that is essential in a childs' life, yet is sometimes only available while in a school setting. I know in my family, while there are only two kids, my sister and I were always at some type of sport or competion, or we were at school. You mentioned your experience at school and how being able to talk to other students helped build your language which I think is so cool, I love that you talked about this because school is not just for learning basic core subjects, it's about building relationships and skills that might not be provided while at home. My only question would be, what do you plan on doing in your classroom to help build a positive relationship with school like the one you had?

    1. Hi Rylee! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog and comment. I am so glad you agree about the socializing skill benefit from schools. I think a lot of people tend to forget about it. I am so glad you brought up the fact of it being just parent and potential sibling socialization for kids before skill. I also think people do not realize how much children thrive from routine and school is a place where it can be provided. I think it is important for children to get the experiences from schools that they can only get from there. I loved your insight from your personal experience. I hope you enjoyed my blog.

  3. I completely agree that schools are an important part of a child's development. In addition to the reasons you mentioned, schools also provide a structured environment that teaches discipline, time management, and responsibility. It's also a place where children can explore their interests and passions through extracurricular activities. However, with the rise of technology and online education, do you think traditional brick and mortar schools will continue to play a significant role in the future? How can schools adapt to better serve the needs of students in a changing world where technology is becoming more prevalent? Additionally, while schools offer diverse learning opportunities, there is still room for improvement in terms of inclusion and diversity. How can schools do a better job of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students regardless of their background or identity?

I loved that you brought up the point that students' interest gets to be built and brought into school. I loved that you brought up technology in schools. 4. Hi Sadie! I agree with you, schools are a great place for many reasons. We are able to meet new people, learn things in such a fun, exciting way, and create relationships with the people around us. This course taught us so many valuable lessons that we are able to carry on with us. I am really glad we blogged throughout this semester because we are able to look back on our posts. It made me nervous knowing others would read and comment on our posts, but I immediately came to love blogging! We were able to share our thoughts and ask questions and read about things from different perspectives from our peers. I agree, socialization is a big thing in school. We learn how to communicate with other students, teachers, parents, etc. Students are able to experience and learn many life lessons that will help them in their future. Great blog post!

  5. Hey Sadie! I really enjoyed reading your thoughts over this week's blog post. I completely agree with you and I do think that schools can be a great place for our students. School can be a great place to learn more than just the core subjects and can teach students about social skills and about diversity within our world. Allowing students to interact and learn first hand through their peers about other cultures and backgrounds that they have experienced. I loved your comment about school creating a routine. This is something that lots of kids need and they experience it by going to school. One of my personal favorite things about school is how students' education is the foundation for the rest of their lives and teaches them valuable lessons they will need in the world. How might you implement some of the reasoning for why school is great into your future classroom?

  6. Hey Sadie! I totally see what you're saying about public school exposing you to many different types of backgrounds and people. Though school is the main way this occurs, I don't necessarily think it's the only place it can happen. However, It definitely is a major benefit of school. I also want to touch on the point you made about school being a place to learn routine, behavior, and rules. I think the installation of these things creates a sort of structure for children which is super important for young kids because they tend to flourish when they have a sense of structure. I also think it's interesting how you mentioned that people have forgotten why schools are great and need a reminder. I think it can be easy for the benefits of school to be overlooked because of all the criticisms the school system faces, but I also think it's important to talk about the issues and the changes that need to be made to improve it especially since it is so important and plays such a huge role in everyone's lives.

  7. Hi Sadie! I do think schools are a great place to learn. However, I do think that us as future educators need to provide a safe and beneficial environment for the students. There is so much versatility and diversity when it comes to public schools. I do agree with you that schools have been made to be a terrible place. Sadly, there are many reasons for that conclusion. I like the points that you mentioned regarding routine, behavior, and rules. I also think kids should be able to still be kids by enjoying their childhood at the same time but learning those things is just as important to set the up for a good future. I loved reading your blog and I think you did a great job.
