Why public school?
Why Public School?
Public school is a chance for students to get to meet people who are not like them. This creates a verity of viewpoints in the classroom and if teachers use it right this can be super beneficial. I once was reading a textbook for a college course and it was going over inclusion in the classroom. I will always remember this one quote from the book where it was comparing biodiversity in an ecosystem to inclusion on the classroom. They say how we praise and fight for diversity in an ecosystem but don't realize it is just as beneficial in a classroom. After reading this textbook it helped me realize how important inclusion in the classroom. I will continue the fight for all students to have the right to an education.
The most important thing we can do to help marginalized students is to listen to them. If we want to know how to help them the best person to ask is them. I will be trying to do this in the future when I have my own classroom. I am going to try and look for books from authors who keep inclusion in mind. I have seen books that would go over the same material but me more inclusive and it is more engaging for the kids. Forming a sense of community is really important for me.
Hello Sadie!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your definition on public schools, this serves as an opportunity for students to meet peers, share experiences and learn from one another. Inclusion in the classroom is key to creating a safe space environment for all. Communicating with your students will be a key factor in your success in the classroom. Their needs must be met at all times, but you must be aware of these educational, physical, emotional needs.
HI lindzie! Thank you so much for reading my blog post! I agree with everything you said! Inclusion and a sense of being in the classroom is s important. I agree teachers must be aware of these needs.
DeleteHi Sadie! I really enjoyed reading your blog about what you think the purpose of public school is. And I completely agree that having an inclusive environment is very important. Inclusivity in the classroom will create a very healthy and safe environment for young students. It gives students the opportunity to communicate and make connections and create friendships. I love your passion for wanting to create that kind of environment for your future classroom and wanting to build a community. It’s very important to make connections with your students and communicate with them to give them a sense of belonging. It can build their trust and they will feel safe in your classroom and your students won’t be afraid to express themselves. I really admire the way that this topic is very important to you when you have your own classroom, and I think every future educator should keep this in mind!
